This time we take a look at the Gakunan Railway or Gakunan Tetsudō, a small railway that carries passengers and freight, mainly paper from the papermills along the line. The railway is even owned by a paper company
This electric locomotive is of the ED40 class of which the Gakunan ownes several units. These are the most modern locomotives on the Gakunan Railway. These locos are used to haul the paper trains, usually made up of 4-wheeled WaMu 80000 vans or bogie container cars. Photo taken at Yoshiwara station April 1st 2006.
Passenger traffic is handled with 2nd hand units from several railways, but ex-Odakyu units dominate. This unit, made up of car # 5002 and 5102 and was already taken out of service. Fuijoka depot, April 1st 2006.
